Leadership Team

  • David J. Hines, President and Founder - Mr. Hines founded CMR in 1996 following a 12-year career in healthcare and information systems. The company pioneered Medical Decision Support® based on a belief that high-quality, efficient, and excellent care can be achieved only when employees are well-informed about their options and actively participate in decisions relating to their care.Medical Decision Support was one of the first patient decision support tools available in the United States, and has been featured in Business Week, USA Today, The New York Times, and Consumer-Driven Health Care: Implications for Providers, Payers, and Policy-makers by healthcare reform expert Regina E. Herzlinger.
  • Janet Claflin, Senior Vice President, Operations - Ms. Claflin joined CMR in 2008 and leads its business operations including its Intake, Research and Support, IT, and new product development areas. She is responsible for timely development and delivery of all employee-patient educational materials, maintaining highest quality customer service and ensuring reliable technology and systems processes and compliance with all contractual and regulatory requirements. Prior to joining CMR, Ms. Claflin served as Chief Operating Officer of MetaWorks, Inc., with oversight for production, IT, Accounting, and Human Resource functions. Her experience also includes 18 years in the financial services industry with responsibilities ranging from bank branch operations, compliance and fraud management, and training. Ms. Claflin understands the value of exceeding client expectations in service delivery-especially for people who need timely information when facing important and often difficult healthcare decisions.
  • LuAnn Christianson, R.N., M.S.N., Ph.D., Vice President, Technology and Product Development- Dr. Christianson has been with CMR since 2000 in a variety of roles, including Researcher and Director of Operations. In her current role, she manages the technology initiatives both internal to operations and external via the MDS web site. In addition, she is project manager for a new CMR service that provides chronic condition support for employees of CMR’s corporate clients. Dr. Christianson has an extensive background in nursing, specializing in pediatric cancer, nursing administration, and nursing education with a research focus on Web-based instruction. In her work at CMR, Dr. Christianson strives to combine the benefits of a high-touch, holistic approach when working with employees-patients with the added efficiencies of technological innovation.
  • Leslie A. Courtney, Vice President of Account Management - Ms. Courtney has over 10 years of experience in the healthcare industry specializing in consultation and program design for health management initiatives. She serves as a liaison between CMR and its clients with respect to sales strategy and execution, comprehensive program design, budget analysis and client satisfaction. Prior to joining CMR Ms. Courtney was the Vice President of Channel Development at IncentOne as well as Director of Health Management at Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island where she was responsible for Sales, Operations, Health Education, Client Services, primary prevention HEDIS measures and Product Development. Ms. Courtney has also worked for Johnson and Johnson, Springfield College and numerous skilled nursing facilities. Ms. Courtney earned her B.S. degree from Eastern Nazarene College in Sports Therapy and her M.S. degree from Springfield College in Health Promotion and Wellness Management.
  • Cindi A. Slater, M.D., Senior Vice President and Medical Director - Dr. Slater has been with CMR since 1999 and has been serving as its Medical Director since 2001. She manages CMR’s physician staff and is responsible for the overall quality of the company’s products. She is also a member of CMR’s Operating and Executive Committees. She received her M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and is board certified in internal medicine. She is a Clinical Instructor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and practices internal medicine at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. Dr. Slater is committed to providing comprehensive, high-quality information to patients so that they can make more informed medical decisions with their doctors.
  • Bill Pelfrey, Strategy Advisor - Mr. Pelfrey helps identify product, partnership, and growth opportunities for CMR using his experience from a series of diverse management roles at major U.S. corporations. He left UnitedHealth Group in 2005, where he was a senior executive responsible for identifying strategic future-growth initiatives and leading their development. His most recent role there was as President of Consumer Solutions, UnitedHealth's consumer-focused business segment. Mr. Pelfrey joined UnitedHealth Group in 2001 as the President of Optum, a premier decision-support company within the Specialty Health Division. Previously, Mr. Pelfrey was a Managing Director with U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray, a growth company investment bank. He led the development and success of Piper's Venture Capital Services Group and was a member of the Investment Committee for two funds. Mr. Pelfrey also was a management consultant for Deloitte Consulting.
