Pembroke, MA., Mar 11, 2004 – David J. Hines, Founder and President, Consumer’s Medical Resource (CMR), discusses the factors
accelerating the consumer revolution in health care and why consumer empowerment provides the best solution to the health care crisis
in Consumer Driven Health Care: Implications for Providers, Payers, and Policymakers, a new book by renowned health care policy expert
and Harvard Business School professor Regina Herzlinger.
In Consumer Driven Health Care, Herzlinger documents how the consumer health care movement is being implemented and its impact on
insurers, providers, new intermediaries, and governments. In addition, the book includes a series of chapter contributions by health
care's leading strategists, innovators, regulators, and scholars that argue for a radically new health care system that is
characterized by the essential elements that define true consumerism: consumer/patient control, choice, and information.
In the chapter titled, "Consumer's Medical Resource: Helping Consumers Evaluate Medical Treatment Options," Hines analyzes the
marketplace realities giving birth to the new consumerism and describes his company's innovative Medical Decision Support
(MDS) service. He describes its dramatic impact on the quality of patient decision-making of those combating serious,
complicated, and expensive medical conditions.
Consumer Driven Health Care: Implications for Providers, Payers, and Policymakers is published by Jossey-Bass, an imprint of John
