Consumer's Medical Resource and Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. Join Forces to Bring Employees across the U.S. Access to Top Doctors

PEMBROKE, MA (Jan 11, 2011)  –   Consumer's Medical Resource (CMR) and Castle Connolly Ltd. recently entered into an agreement to offer large employers a selection tool and profiles for the 25,000 Castle Connolly Top Doctors in the U.S., according to David Hines, president of CMR. Castle Connolly Top Doctors is the latest component of CMR's Medical Decision Support® (MDS) service, which provides in-depth, objective, personalized and timely information on ANY medical condition.

"This is important for our customers and other employers in the U.S.," says Mr. Hines. "With the addition of Castle Connolly Top Doctors selection and profiles, our MDS service will meet employer demand for genuine, in-person, second opinions and expert reviews.

"MDS was already giving employees high-quality and individualized information on any medical condition – helping them avoid unnecessary surgeries and select the best treatments. And we recognize that choosing a high quality physician is imperative to receiving high quality care. By partnering with Top Doctors, we have enhanced our ability to identify leading practitioners letting people get just about everything they need in one place for dealing with tough medical situations."

Castle Connolly publishes acclaimed consumer guides including America's Top Doctors® and maintains a searchable website housing profiles on more than 25,000 physicians from every region in the U.S. and every medical specialty. Inclusion in the Castle Connolly Top Doctors database is based on peer nominations and professional assessments by a physician-led research team. Physicians do not and cannot pay to be selected as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor, and advertising or third parties that have something to gain by recommending a particular provider are not taken into account. The review includes, among other factors, scrutiny of medical education, training, hospital appointments, administrative posts, professional achievements, and malpractice and disciplinary history.

CMR and Castle Connolly will integrate the Top Doctors database into the CMR website to make the profiles available 24/7 to those employees who want to search on their own. In addition, for those too busy or who want expert help, CMR's Decision Support Teams will assist employees and their families by telephone to select a physician using the Castle Connolly Top Doctor profiles.

"Castle Connolly is a well known organization with quality services. They have been around for over twenty years and have helped tens of thousands of people do a better job of selecting doctors," says Mr. Hines. "To bring this as a benefit to employees will make an important difference in the quality of their care."

"It's ridiculous, but it’s true: in the U.S., it’s easier to shop for a car than for a doctor. When you’re looking at cars, it’s easy to find out the specifications and the quality data. But when employees are looking for the best doctor, they typically find nothing to help them. Castle Connolly and the support services MDS provides change that. A quality doctor guides patients to appropriate treatment and correct care, which ultimately saves money for everyone."

Says John J. Connolly, Ed.D., president and CEO of Castle Connolly, “We are very pleased to open up this benefit to large employers. Working with CMR allows us to partner with the respected leader in medical decision support and will pave the way for thousands more people to take control of their medical care and get the best help for themselves and their families."
