Roger, 55 years old, was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
fourteen years ago and the cancer recurred again nine years later.
Both times he was treated with the same form of chemotherapy.
When the cancer recurred recently, Roger called CMR to get more
information about his diagnosis and treatment options. When the
CMR physician spoke with Roger he was asked whether a biopsy had
been performed recently because this type of lymphoma has the
ability to change over time making past treatments ineffective.
He said that a biopsy had not been done. CMR provided Roger an
in-depth, customized report on Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma and the
treatment options available. In addition, CMR provided information
on the role of a biopsy and the value it could provide for this
type of cancer.
After reading the report and speaking with his doctor about the
biopsy, Roger’s doctor went ahead and performed one. The results
showed that indeed the cancer had changed and the proposed treatment
would have been completely ineffective. Roger’s treatment was
changed to a new form of chemotherapy and his cancer is now in
remission.
